Nigerian reportedly tried to rape 71-year-old woman in North Cyprus

A young man who tried to rape a 71-year-old woman, in Lefkosa has been arrested and will be tried in court.

The man identified only as C.E.E, an African, was arrested on Thursday afternoon for attempting to rape a 71-year-old woman in her apartment at Köşlüçüftlik in Lefkosa.

The suspect was taken to court on Friday on charges of attempted rape, illegal house entering, and serious assault.

Police officer who testified in court, said the suspect entered the victim's home by breaking into an open door of the apartment on the third floor of an apartment building in Lefkoşa. When inside the apartment, he locked the door from inside and then attempted to rape the woman.

The woman managed to get up from the floor and shouted for help while throwing herself out of her apartment. The suspect tried to escape by jumping from the balcony door. He then hid in a residence behind the crime scene.

The police stated that as a result of the extensive research carried out by the Police teams, who went to the scene to identify the suspect who jumped from the balcony and escaped from the scene, he was detected in the residence where he was hiding in a back street of the crime scene and was arrested using reasonable force.

Police said the suspect was unemployed.

The court judge ordered the suspects to be detained for 3 days so that the investigation could be conducted safely.
