UK appoints new British High Commissioner to Cyprus
The United Kingdom has appointed British diplomat Irfan Siddiq, a Muslim of Pakistani origin, to the post of British High Commissioner in Cyprus.
Siddiq will take over from Stephen Lillie in August.
Irfan Siddiq, who was appointed as the UK’s High Commissioner in Cyprus, which was vacated by Stephen Lillie’s appointment to another diplomatic post, will assume his duty in August, according to the statement made by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Honoured with the Order of the British Empire (OBE), married and father of two, Irfan Siddiq previously held various positions in Cairo, Baghdad, Washington, Damascus, Baku and Khartoum.
After being appointed as the new British High Commissioner, İrfan Siddiq wrote on his Twitter account, “To a new challenge…”
It is stated that Irfan Siddiq is a Muslim of Pakistani descent.
Stephen Lillie wrote on his Twitter account, “All good things come to an end – but not until August. Until then, I still have a lot to do. It is a great privilege for me to serve as High Commissioner in Cyprus. I sincerely congratulate Irfan Siddiq in his new position.”
