Police warns of fake dollar notes in circulation

The police has issued a warning to the general public about fake dollar bills in the market.

The police in a Press statement said, two people believed to be in possession of fake, one 50 Euro note, one 50 US Dollar note and 22 pieces of 100 notes (Total $2,200) were identified and arrested in an operation in Girne on Tuesday, April, 26, 2022.

Police said some US dollar banknote was found in their possession.

"As there is a possibility that the counterfeit money in question may have been released before, they have "50 and 100 US Dollars" and "50 Euro" denominations, starting with the serial numbers indicated; Banks, foreign exchange companies, financial institutions, markets and citizens, as well as people and institutions that will trade and exchange money, are kindly requested to be very careful and report any suspects to the nearest police station, police said in a statement.
