TRNC to set up a new airline and 5G internet
The TRNC Minister for Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı on Friday said that his ministry was preparing to introduce a series of serious reforms.
In an interview with the TAK news agency, Arıklı said that the new government’s priorities included the creation of a new airline, setting up fast and cheap fiber optic internet for the TRNC, introducing 5G in the country, completing pending road projects and creating cheap public housing for lower income families.
Regarding the creation of a new airline, Minister Arıklı said that the feasibility work on the new airline had been completed and that he will be making a presentation at the next cabinet meeting.
Speaking of ongoing work to introduce faster and cheaper internet services in the country, the public works and transportation minister said that there were also plans to introduce a third GSM operator in the TRNC in a bid to raise competition.
This competition he argued would drive prices down in the long term.
Arıklı also spoke about other projects such as switching to led lighting on main roads and streets.
Minister Arıklı said that they were also aiming to complete the new terminal building at Ercan before the 20th of July celebrations.
On the issue of turning Ercan Airport into a domestic airport of Turkiye, Arıklı said that such a move would help lower ticket prices.
“Ercan is already treated as a domestic airport by Turkiye. This will not harm the TRNC’s sovereign status,” he said.
