TRNC government counters strike action by Airport Union
The TRNC Council of Ministers has countered the decision of the Air Traffic Controllers Union to go on a 23 hours strike by banning strike for 60 days in all units of the Civil Aviation Department and Ercan Airport.
On Friday evening, in all units of the Civil Aviation Department and Ercan Airport launched a shocking 23-hour warning strike at Ercan Airport.
The action started at 9:00pm on Friday, March, 25. The reason for the strike was the retroactive receivables, overtime and non-payment of allowances of the civil servants who were in training.
With the strike, planes will not be able to land at Ercan Airport.
The Council of Ministers in a decision published in the Official Gazette on Friday night, stated that "the strike initiated or to be initiated by the Air Traffic Controllers' Union and/or other unions is prohibited because it severely interrupts essential services".
