Voters turn out in the TRNC below expectations

Turkish Cypriots went to the polls on Sunday to elect a new Parliament but as expected, the turn out was way too low, with  average turnout at around 58.23 per cent.

The voting that started at 8:00am ended at 5:30pm while vote counting is currently underway.

Voters headed to the polls with the Cyprus issue and bad economy as their main concerns.

Four people were arrested for taking photos of their vote before casting it, this is actually an election crime in the TRNC.

Earlier in the morning, chairman of the UBP, (a Right wing party) and Prime Minister, Fayez Sucuoglou said his party is expected to come out victorious adding that the ‘country’ needed political stability.

Some results are expected to be announced at around 11:00pm while a full picture might not be available for 24 hours later on Monday.
