Turkish Cypriot customs officer reportedly assault a Polish woman sexually at the border gate
A Turkish Cypriot customs officer will face trial for sexual assault after it was reported that he sexually assaulted a Polish woman at the border gate with south Cyprus.
The suspect, a costume officer had on Friday, January, 7, 2022, reportedly assaulted a Polish woman at the Ledra Palace crossing point with south Cyprus in Lefkosa.
He was arrested following a complaint by the victim and taken to a court in Lefkosa on allegations of sexual assault.
Police officer who testified in court said the suspect, who lives in Lefkosa, sexually harassed a woman crossing from south to north, at the Ledra Palace crossing point in Lefkosa at around 4:47pm on January, 7, 2022.
He said the suspect followed the 30-year-old Polish student living in Girne, to the parking lot on foot as she crossed to the north, and then asked her for her mobile phone number, saying "I'm here during working hours, I don't work on weekends". Police said the suspect then tried to squeeze the woman's right cheek as she got into the car and attempted sexual assault.
The suspect was arrested in accordance with a pending order received, and that his voluntary statement should be confirmed and refuted.
The police stated that the issue was a serious one and demanded that he be detained for 3 days in the first place so that all issues in favor and against the suspect could be investigated.
