Woman arrested for encouraging prostitution to remain in detention for 6 more days, 4 more people wanted by the police

A Nigerian woman who was arrested last week for encouraging prostitution, robbery and illegal detention will remain in jail for six more days while four other people are being sort for their part in it.

The incident took place in Kucuk Kaymaklı, Lefkosa in October 2021.

The suspect, was arrested on January, 7 after the police was informed of the incident and then taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of “Encouraging Prostitution, detaining someone with Intent to Engage in Sexual Relationships, Robbery, Threat of Violence and battering.

She was ordered to remain in police custody for more investigation to be carried out on the incident.

On Tuesday, she was taken back to court again and her detention period extended to 6 days for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.

Police officer who testified in court, said that the suspect's roommate, a 21-year-old Nigerian student was detained by the suspect with the intention of having sex with men she did not know, and that she threatened to kill her and her family if she refused to accept it.

Police said the suspect forced the victim to engage in prostitution with a male person who she introduced through social media for 84,000 Naira (Nigerian Currency). 

Police said the suspect allegedly committed the crime of robbery by forcibly taking the victims Nigerian passport, vaccination card and her documents. An investigation has been launched in this direction.

Police said they are looking for 4 people in connection with the matter. 

More statements will be taken, camera footage will be examined, and that the statements made by the suspect would be confirmed.
