Mason Greenwood arrested after girlfriend accuses him of physical violence and sexual assault
Harriet Robson, the girlfriend of Mason Greenwood, has accused the Manchester United star of beating and sexually abusing her leading to his arrest on Sunday.
In a now-deleted post on social media, Robson shared photos of injuries, videos and an audio recording with the caption: “To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me” claiming they were inflicted on her by Greenwood who allegedly forced himself on her.
One video she posted showed her with blood pouring from her lip, while other images displayed bruises on various areas of her body.
Manchester
United had earlier released a statement on their official website about the
allegation stating that they are aware of the situation and waiting to
fully confirm the already existing evidence as facts before taking
further actions as a club. Hours later, the club announced that it has suspended footballer. “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” United said in a statement to Reuters. The club earlier said that they “do not condone violence of any kind”.
Later on Sunday, British police said they had arrested a man on suspicion of rape and assault. Greater Manchester Police said in a statement that a man was arrested after social media images and videos were posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
“An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault,” the police said.
The man, who was not named but was described as in his 20s, was being held in custody for questioning, the police added.
If the reports making the rounds on social on social media is true, this could just be the beginning of the end of the 20-yeae-old Manchester United and England career.
Greenwood, has been at the club since childhood and
has come up the ranks through the United academy before making his
first-team debut in 2019.
If truly found guilty, he faces immediate removal of his name from the club's website, squad number taken away from him, contract terminated and a long jail term..... A similar issue is currently being faced by former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy.
