Stranded Cameroonians, prisoners in south Cyprus to return with Pope
Two Cameroonian students stuck in the buffer zone between north and south Cyprus for the past six months as neither side refused to take them in, are among the 50 migrants that Pope Francis is taking back to Italy with him.
According to report by Cyprus Mail, 10 of the 50 migrants were held in prison for residing in south Cyprus without permits.
The Cyprus Ministry of Interior in a statement said; “ the Vatican’s symbolic gesture was recognition of the difficulties faced by Cyprus by the rising flow of migrants.
“This is the substantive solidarity we seek from our European partners,” the ministry said.
