First two cases of Omicron variant detected in TRNC

The TRNC Ministry of Health have announced the detection of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in the country.

The announcement was made on Tuesday.

The Ministry said, two people were found to have the Omicron variant as a result of the studies carried out on the cases that were positive for Covid-19

It has been reported that 2 people whose Omicron variant was detected as a result of the investigation carried out by the contact tracing teams of the Ministry, have not traveled abroad in the near future. It was announced that two people carrying the variant were under surveillance in quarantine and all necessary detections and scans were made about their contacts.

Stating that the reminder doses of Covid-19 vaccines are of great importance in protecting against the Omicron variant, Ministry officials said, "It is essential that people who have never been vaccinated get their vaccinations, and that those whose reminder dose deadlines come to apply to the vaccine centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health as soon as possible and have their reminder doses." .  

In the statement made by the ministry, it was stated that "after the detection of the Omicron variant in the country, we remind our citizens that following the mask, social distance and hygiene rules, together with the vaccine, are the most important factors in the fight against Covid-19."
