103 Turkish Cypriots living with HIV
About 103 Turkish Cypriot citizens were diagnosed with HIV in the last few years.
In an announcement made by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, December, 1 to mark World AIDS (HIV) day, it said there are a total of 103 surviving citizens with HIV who were diagnosed in different years.
It was announced that 7 of the 103 HIV patients were female and 96 male, and the number of people newly diagnosed in 2020 was 8. "78 of them live and receive treatment in the TRNC."
The Ministry reminded that HIV/AIDS notification is mandatory in accordance with the "Infectious Diseases Law", and stated that the notification of the cases was made to the Primary Health Services Department with the patient names coded.
"Patients are provided with free access to treatment, and their names are coded in the system and can get diagnosis and treatment services without being deciphered.
Today, significant advances have been made in the treatment of the disease, and with treatment, contagion can be prevented and transmission of infection from mother to baby can be prevented.
These up-to-date treatments are provided to all our citizens free of charge by the ministry.
