Police warns of fake dollar in circulation

Turkish Cypriot police has issued a warning to the public about fake dollar notes in circulation.

In a written statement made by the Police Press Officer, it was stated that a fake US dollar was put on the market by z person who was a customer at a workplace operating in Kyrenia.  

It was stated that the persons and institutions that will  take action regarding the notes whose serial numbers are specified should be very careful.

Below is the statement:

“On October, 25, 2021, it was determined that the person, who was a customer at a workplace operating in Girne, gave two counterfeit US Dollars ($100) consisting of 50 banknotes that he had in his possession in return for his shopping. Within the scope of the investigation carried out, two counterfeit $20 and one counterfeit $10 US Dollar ($50) banknotes were detected and taken as evidence during the search made at the residence of the person in question.

Banks, foreign exchange companies, financial institutions, markets and citizens, as well as individuals and institutions that will make money purchases, sales and exchanges, that hold 50, 20 and/or 10 USD denominated currencies should be very careful. They are kindly requested to report the suspects to the nearest police station.”
