45-year-old man killed in accident on the Near East Boulevard in Lefkosa
A 45-year-old man was killed in an accident while cycling on the Near East Boulevard in Lefkosa in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The unfortunate incident happened at about 12:30am on Wednesday, October, 13.
Teoman Telek, a 45-year-old cyclist, was hit by a car on the Near East Boulevard in Lefkosa. He was seriously injured in the accident and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, but could not be saved despite all medical interventions.
The driver of the vehicle who left the scene of the accident was later located by the police and arrested.
Police said the 20-year-old driver identified as Zamir Dereseven, was drunk and under the influence of 84 ml of alcohol at the time of the accident, that caused Telek's death.
Police said he lost control of the vehicle when he got to a right-slanting bend as a result of carelessness and was thrown off the road, hitting the curbstones on the left side of the road and being thrown uncontrollably and finally collided with the bicycle.
