Student killed in road accident along Güzelyurt - Lefke main road

A 22-year-old student who was trying to cross the road on foot in the early hours of Sunday morning near Yeşilyurt has died after being hit by a car. 

The unfortunate incident happened at Yeşilyurt at about 12:05am on Sunday, September, 26.

The deceased identified as Abdullah Keskin, a Turkish student in the TRNC was trying to cross the road when he was hit by a car driven by a 33-year-old man who was coming from the direction of Güzelyurt on the Güzelyurt - Lefke main road.

Keskin who was thrown 29 meters away from the accident scene died on the spot due to the injuries he sustained. The driver of the vehicle, Hasan Yılmaz, was arrested. 

Police said the accident happened as a result of excessive speed and carelessness. 

He was taken to a court in Lefkosa on Sunday where he was detained for 3 days on court orders for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.
