TRNC will not lock-down again despite the increasing numbers of coronavirus cases

The recent rise in coronavirus case numbers can only be prevented by getting vaccinated and abiding by the rules, TRNC, Health Minister Ünal Üstel has said.

Üstel, speaking on BRT on Tuesday, ruled out any plans for a new lockdown due to a rise in case numbers.

“Health comes first, but the state of the economy is just as important,” Üstel added.

He said that the rise in case numbers is a result of the opening of entertainment venues and weddings.

“There may be an increase, but we can get through this process more easily by stepping up the vaccination drive,” the Health Minster said.

He added that the overwhelming majority of those infected were not vaccinated and were experiencing more severe symptoms.

Üstel also urged people who are infected or who have come into close contact with positive cases not to hide themselves.

Regarding the Adapass application, Minister Üstel said that the application is to be implemented at all venues as of Friday, August 20.

Adapass, the TRNC’s digital safety pass which shows whether a person is vaccinated or has a valid PCR/rapid test; will be required to enter closed spaces or establishments including supermarkets.

All individuals are required to form an Adapass ID by visiting the website adapass.gov.ct.tr.

Üstel said that individuals can correct errors on their Adapass at vaccination centres where they received their jabs between 12 noon and 2pm.
