African-origin students dominate Lefkosa prison

It is noteworthy that a significant part of prisoners and detainees in Lefkosa Central Prison, are foreign nationals.

According to information obtained from prison sources as reported by Yeneduzen, 315 of the convicts and detainees in the prison, which has a population of 584, came from 40 different countries. It has been learned that 169 convicts and detainees are citizens of 'far countries', and 146 people come from Turkey and are all involved in crime in the country.

It was also noted that the remaining 269 people in the prison were TRNC or TRNC/Turkey dual nationals.

The increasing population in Lefkosia Central Prison started to cause new problems.

While complaining about the inadequacy of the building, it is noteworthy that most of the detainees are foreign nationals.

According to the information obtained from prison sources, the total population of the prison is 584.

169 of this number are citizens of other countries other than the TRNC and Turkey. Majority of the prisoners and detainees in question are of African origin, and that a significant portion of them are "student" on the island. The necessity of restructuring in terms of "university standards" was also discussed.
