Student who was held for residing illegally in the TRNC taken to Psychiatric Hospital
A Nigerian student who was reportedly found to be smuggled into the TRNC was taken to a court in Girne for the fourth time on Friday last week after he was found to be living in the country without a resident permit.
Turkish Cypriot police said the accused was arrested at about 8:30pm on June, 15 during a police control that took place on Salih Miroğlu Street in Kyrenia.
He was taken to a court in Girne on Friday, July, 2 for living in the country without a permit.
According to police officer, Yaşar Pöge who testified in court, the suspect, has been residing in the TRNC since September, 30, 2020 without any legal status.
Police said a dismissal proceedings against the suspect are continuing and that an investigation is being carried out to determine whether he is in good mental health, and will be kept under surveillance at the Peace Psychiatric Hospital until Monday.
Evaluating the testimony given, court judge, Murat Soytaç ordered the suspect to be detained in the police custody for 7 days for investigation purposes.
