Foreigner who left the island after stealing from his place of work nabbed on his return at the airport

A foreigner who left the island in 2020 was arrested on his return for stealing from his former place of work.

The suspect identified by the initials, B.İ. was arrested upon his return to the island and taken to a court in Lefkosa on Monday, June, 21 on charges of theft.

Police in its statement said the suspect was arrested in relation to a 'theft by an employee' that took place in Lefkosa.

The suspect was an employee of the Tree Brothers Elevator company operating in Lefkosa Industrial Zone. 

Police said he left the TRNC on January, 24, 2020 after saving 395 TL and 150 Euros, which he stole from the company between the period of January, 22-23, 2020.

He was detected while entering the TRNC on June, 10, 2021 and was arrested on Sunday, June, 20, 2021 after a 10-day quarantine period.  

Police demanded that the suspect be put on trial, saying that the investigation initiated regarding the issue has been completed.

Judge Temay Sağer ordered that the suspect be sent to prison as an uncontested prisoner for a period not exceeding 21 days.
