Wednesday is public holiday in TRNC and Turkey to mark 19th of May Youth and Sports Day
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be marking the 102nd anniversary of the 19th of May Atatürk Remembrance, Youth and Sports Day on Wednesday, May, 19 alongside Turkey.
The day commemorates Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s landing at Samsun on May 19, 1919, which is regarded as the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence.
The founder of modern-day Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk then dedicated the day to the country’s youth to whom he entrusted the future of the Turkish nation.
Within the framework of events to be held to mark the day wreaths will be laid at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Bust at 9am.
At 19.30 a torchlight procession will be held from Lefkoşa Dereboyu Citroen lights to Lefkoşa Atatürk Monument.
Similar events will be taking place throughout all districts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
