TRNC may have to buy electricity from Southern Cyprus
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus may have to buy electricity from southern Cyprus, said Minister of Energy, Erhan Arıklı.
Erhan Arıklı made the revelation on Wednesday when answering questions on a program he attended on Havadis TV.
Speaking on the fault in Teknecik Power Plant, Arıklı said,
As of last night (Tuesday Night), a malfunction occurred in one of the steam turbines in Teknecik. So that steam tribune also had to work. Our friends continued to work under very difficult conditions. They worked until the morning hours. Is it a sabotage or a routine breakdown? They're trying to figure it out. If it is disabled this morning (Wednesday), it will necessarily be returned to fuel-oil. This is also an expensive electricity.
If that does not happen, we may have to buy electricity from Southern Cyprus. Necessary precautions are taken to prevent the citizens from power cuts.
These measures are a bit expensive, but our friends worked all night long. I hope our friends in the union are doing the necessary intervention, he said.
