Fugitive Russian sentenced to 12 years in prison for rape
Fugitive Russian, Alexander Satlaev, who escaped from prison earlier in the year, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after he was convicted of rape by a Girne criminal court.
In February, 2021, Satlaev escaped from the Central Prison in Lefkosa where he was detained for robbery and rape and was caught 3 days later following a massive search.
He was later taken to the Girne High Criminal Court on charges of robbery, rape and sexual assault of a woman identified only as D.Y which he committed in Kyrenia in 2019. He did not accept any of the charges.
The case was concluded on Friday last week.
In an unanimous decision by the presiding judges, he was found guilty of 'sexual rape', 'sexual assault' and assault and then sentenced to 12 years in prison.
According to report by Russian media, Satlaev, a former police inspector (detective) in the Altai Autonomous Republic of the Russian Federation was dismissed from service and was sentenced to 4 years in prison for raping 4 people in his country in 2013. But he was released in March, 2019 after paying a fine of 250,000 Ruble.
He was first arrested in Kyrenia in 2018 and sentenced to prison for squeezing a woman's throat and stealing her money before committing the crime again in 2019.
