Cyprus Weather Report: Dust in the atmosphere until Tuesday
Dust in the air is expected to continue until Tuesday, according to the TRNC Met Office.
The head of the met office, Raif İlker Buran said that the elevated levels of dust were the result of a low-pressure system near Algeria which was carried to the island with strong south-westerly winds.
He said that dust storms which originated in certain areas were affected by deforestation and will either be dispersed by wind or rain.
There is no rain and since the wind is blowing from the direction the dust is coming from we will be experiencing the phenomenon until next Tuesday.
Buran said that the current dust storm was one of the longest recorded recently.
Because the dust contains small inhalable particles, which may have a negative effect on human health, the public and especially vulnerable persons such as children and the elderly are urged to avoid going outdoors until the dust subsides.
