Three people detained over illegal abortion in Famagusta

Police have arrested 3 people in connection with an illegal abortion carried out in a Famagusta hospital in 2020.

In an investigation carried out against a private clinic operating in Famagusta, it was reported that the clinic terminated a 13 weeks old pregnancy in April, 2020 which lead to serious bleeding of the patient.

Three people involved in the act including a the supposed pregnant woman, her friend and a doctor, were arrested this week and taken to a court in Famagusta on Thursday following completion of the investigation.

The pregnant woman's friend did not accept the accusation against her.

The investigation revealed that the pregnant woman was aware that she was 13 weeks pregnant, but still applied to a private clinic in Magusa with the encouragement of her friend. They both gave statement to the police

The court banned the suspects from going abroad until their cases were discussed, and signed a bond of 5 thousand TL in cash, and 75 thousand TL to be signed by a TRNC citizen, and decided to release them.
