12,135 students came to the island since February, 1 while about 12,000 do not have resident permit
About 12,135 international students came to the TRNC in a coordinated and trouble-free manner between 1 February and 25 April, said Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu.
Amcaoğlu, in a statement made through the press office on Monday, drew attention to the fact that the 2020-2021 academic year in higher education institutions went as planed despite the effect of the global epidemic.
The Minister reminded that distance education continued in certain areas as well as diluted training in application-oriented areas.
He said education were carried out in departments deemed compulsory by universities in accordance with the global epidemic conditions.
Available data and information from the relevant authorities showed that, 103 students enrolled in universities in the Fall term, 80 thousand were active and 40 thousand of these students are outside the island.
He also stated that 80,072 active students enrolled in universities in the island for the Spring Term which increased the number of students in the island to 52 thousand.
Speaking on student permit, the Minister said about 68 thousand 928 students completed the required student immigration procedure while around 12,000 higher education students do not have a student immigration permit
He said the Ministry will continue to work on next year's plan and program, giving importance to the quality of education.
