Two Bangladesh nationals caught with stolen money and jewelries as they try to cross illegally to southern Cyprus
Two Bangladesh nationals have been detained for trying to cross illegally to southern Cyprus after stealing 1,000TL cash, 30 pieces of jewelry and 52 wrist watches from a work place in Famagusta.
They committed the crime at about 5:00am on February, 23.
A detention warrant was obtained against the two on Tuesday.
According to police report, the two accused from Bangladesh identified only as SRK and NH, broke into a workplace located in the Old City business region in Famagusta on the said date and stole a thousand TL cash from the vault and 500 thousand TL worth of jewelry and wristwatches from the showcase.
They were detected in the military forbidden zone when they were about to move illegally to Southern Cyprus. Police said the stolen item were found in their backpack and taken as evidence.
They were taken to a Famagusta District Court on charges of theft and a 3-day arrest warrant was issued against them
Speaking in court, the suspects claimed that they paid a large amount of money to a person in Southern Cyprus to pass them to the South.
