Woman jailed for three months in Kyrenia for prostitution crime

A woman who was arrested for causing public mischief, incitement of prostitution and earning through prostitution in Kyrenia, North Cyprus has been sent to 3 months in prison.

The suspect, an African was arrested on January, 27 and taken to court on charges of "public mischief", "incitement to prostitution" and "earning through prostitution" in Kyrenia.

According to police report, the suspect had on January, 27 visited the police station in Kyrenia to report an incident. She told the police that a fellow who had been with her in her apartment for about 4 days left to the market at noon on January, 26 and returned with three men, one of whom she is familiar with. She said the men battered her and destroyed the house and reportedly took away 20,000 euros her friend gave her to hide in her bedroom.

Upon the complaint, the fellow was summoned by the police on Tuesday, February, 2 and she came together with four other people. They told the police that they live with the suspect who confiscated their passports and sold them to men in exchange for money.

They said they only came to her apartment to retrieve their passports and documents but said they left when the suspect started to scream and scatter the house.

Evaluating the testimony given in her presence, Senior Judge Alev Ulunay ordered the suspect to be in prison for a period not exceeding 3 months in order to be present in the case to be discussed in the future.
