Three students nabbed in Lefkosa for trying to enter south Cyprus illegally
Three students were arrested and detained last week after they were caught trying to enter south Cyprus illegally.
They were caught and arrested on Wednesday, February, 17 ad taken to a court in Lefkosa on Friday, February, 19 on charges of violating a military forbidden zone between February, 15-17.
According to police prosecutor in court, one of the students was an active university student and that he had a student permit valid until September 2021.
A second student came to the country with a student visa on February 2, 2021 and tried to go south Cyprus after completing the 14-day quarantine period.
While the third student, is also an active university student and has a student permit until September 2021.
Presiding Judge, Temay Sağer ordered the first student who has a legal status in the country, to deposit 13 thousand TL in cash and to be tried without arrest.
The second student, who tried to go south as soon as he completed his quarantine period was sent to prison for one month and the third who wanted to become an asylum seeker in south Cyprus was sent to prison for a period not exceeding 21 days.
