Escaped Russian prisoner Alexsandr Satlaev caught by police in north Cyprus

Three days after he escaped from Lefkosa Central prison, Russian prisoner Alexsandr Satlaev was finally caught by police and special movement experts in Kyrenia on Thursday evening.

According to a statement released by the police, the fugitive was identified and arrested in Doğanköy, a suburb of Kyrenia at about 6:00pm on Thursday.

Alexander Satlaev escaped from the Lefkosa Central Prison on Monday, February 8 from where he went to Dikmen, then to Ciklos, Girne, Lapta, and finally Doğanköy where he was caught by a search party that includes the police, military, and trained dogs. 

The search party deployed helicopters and drones during the 3 days search.

He was initially sighted by the military on Tuesday night in Dikem, but managed to escape again. He was also sighted by security camera at the Kyrenia Port.

Police said he was found hiding in an empty house on Aydın Tepe Street. 

Satlaev was arrested in Kyrenia in 2018 and sentenced to prison for squeezing a woman's throat and stealing her money.

According to reports in the Russian media, Alexander Satlaev, a former police inspector (detective) in the region of the Altai Autonomous Republic of the Russian Federation, was dismissed for raping 4 people in 2013.

The investigation of the case is continuing.
