First snowfall of the year hit mountains in North Cyprus
The first snow of the year in north Cyprus fell on Tuesday night in higher regions with snowfalls evident on the Beşparmak, Alevkayası and Görneç mountains.
According to media reports, some roads were closed to traffic due to ice hazards.
Police closed the area between Kaplıca junction and Büyükkonuk to traffic.
Police in a statement said: Ziyamet – Kaplıca Main road between 13 – 14 km on the north coast road, Yudi Mountain Büyükkonuk Karavan Area, due to heavy hail, the road was closed to traffic flow between Kaplıca junction and Büyükkonuk due to heavy hail. The alternative route is via the Büyükkonuk-Balalan road.
On Tuesday, the Met Office announced that there will be sleet and snowfall in the mountainous areas while temperatures droped by 4C to 9 degrees inland.
