The government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has introduced a one week partial lockdown beginning from Sunday, January, 17 to Sunday, January, 24.

The new decision was announced by Prime Minister, Ersan Saner on Saturday after an extraordinary meeting by the Council of Ministers due to internal Covid-19 contamination reaching the 30s.

With the new decision, going out to the streets will be prohibited between the hours of 10:00pm to 5:00am beginning from Sunday, January, 17 to Sunday, January, 24.

He pointed out that the new decision was necessary to reduce the effects of Covid-19 in the TRNC.

He noted that vaccines have arrived the TRNC and that the application has begun.

Meanwhile, it was alleged that the Contagious Diseases Supreme Committee had decided that the government introduced a full lock down for two weeks with only production-based enterprises emergency places allowed to open.

This was however dismissed by the council of Ministers, introducing a 1 week partial curfew instead.

This led to the disbandment of the Contagious Diseases Supreme Committee.
