Students who went to police department for document processing arrested for not having resident permits
Two African students who went to the Lefkosa Police department to process documents were arrested after it was determined that they have been living in the country illegally.
According to report, the students approached the Lefkosa Police Directorate Forensic Branch on January 6, 2021 at about 10:00am for a transaction and their passports were examined.
They were questioned by the Student Unit of the Ministry of Interior and it was determined that they did not have a legal status in the country.
Police said one of the student had been in the country without a residence permit since September, 30, 2016 and the other March, 16, 2017.
They were taken to court on Friday last week on charges of "residing in the TRNC without a residence permit" and a 1-day detention warrant was issued against them.
