Two students arrested in Famagusta on charges of money laundering
Two people who received a package from France containing 18 bank cards belonging to 4 people from different countries, 4 sim cards and 1 student ID card were arrested and detained in Famagusta.
The two students aged 23 and 27 were arrested on Friday last week following an investigation conducted regarding a crime of “acting against the Law on Prevention of Laundering Proceeds of Crime.”
They were taken to a court in Famagusta on Saturday for trial.
According to police report, one of the suspect reportedly went to the Famagusta Post Office on Thursday, November, 26 to receive a package from France. When the package was checked for it's content, 18 bank cards belonging to different countries and people, 4 sim cards and 1 student ID card were found in the package.
He left the post office after an official told him they could not deliver the package due to its content.
He was later called in for questioning at the police directorate after the matter was reported to the police.
He told the police that the package was sent on behalf of the other suspect who was later arrested.
Police said they are looking for two people in connection with the matter.
