Three students arrested for attacking and battering two police officers in Lefkosa

Being in a foreign country without a legal permit is a well document crime worthy of punishment, but assaulting a police officer even in your illegality is something out of the ordinary and only God knows what will be your fate. 

Three students who were under the influence of alcohol were last week arrested for attacking and battering two police officers in Lefkosa, north Cyprus.

The suspects identified only as C.U, E.W and A.C, two of whom are illegal residents in the country reportedly tore the police officer's vest.

They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on Saturday on charges of 'deliberate damage' and 'serious assault' to a police officer who warned them.

According to police statement in court, the suspects attacked and beat two police officers from the 
Forensic Branch who warned them for shouting while been drunk at about 12:15am on Saturday, November, 28 in Girne street, Lefkosa.

Police said one of the suspect had intentionally and unlawfully attacked a police officer on duty, tearing his vest with his hands.

Another suspect severely battered one Osman VARAN who wanted to help the police officers on duty, by punching his right eye.

Police said they were arrested with the use of force and they refused to take an alcohol test. 

Police also said their eyes were red, their movement were imbalanced and the smell of alcohol from their mouths revealed that they were drunk.

Investigation later showed that two of them has been living in the island illegally.

They were detained for 3 days for investigation purposes.
