Five students arrested in Haspolat for trying to enter south Cyprus illegally
Five suspects who allegedly formed a secret alliance with the intention to commit a crime were arrested over the weekend at Hapolat, Lefkosa.
According to police report, the five suspects who are students in the TRNC were arrested at about 6:30pm on Friday when they tried to cross to south Cyprus illegally.
They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of of "forming a secret alliance with the intention of committing a grave crime".
Police prosecutor told the court that the suspects who were seen and arrested during police control on Friday evening after they received a report that a Nigerian national and one suspect still living in the south of Cyprus tried to take four other suspects to the south by illegal means.
They went to meet in Haspolat Industrial Zone when they were arrested.
Police said in the investigation conducted on the matter, some of the suspects made a statement that they came to the industrial area to go south, adding that a person would come and pick them up, and a person in the south had organized it.
The police also noted that some of these suspects later changed their statement.
They were detained for 3 days by the judge so police can carry out more investigation.
