Ekmek (Bread) now sell for 2.50 and 2.75 TL
If you are in North Cyprus and have not had ekmek before, then you are yet to arrive. The bread which was sold for a mere 50 Kurus as early as 2018 has increased by over 200% and why is this so???
The price of the local bread was increased from 2 TL to 2.50 TL on Thursday last week after a decision was taken to increase it on Tuesday last week. Some retailers sells for 2.75 TL.
The Bakers Association stated that this price increase was inevitable as materials for baking were increased significantly in the last month.
The Baker Union Spokesperson said the decision was taken under free market conditions, more reason some sell for 2.75 TL.
According to him, there is no union decision, every company adopted a different application in free market conditions.
There has been no increase in bread price since 2018.
