Water supply to the TRNC to restart in a ‘few days’
Water supply from Turkey will arrive the TRNC by pipeline in a few days, following complaints of drought due to months of delay in repair works to the pipeline.
Water supply was interrupted for repair works and was initially to restart flowing from August 30, but was pushed back to September 25, and then again to September 29 as works were delayed due to inclement weather conditions at sea which may not even be feasible.
News making the rounds on Tuesday say water supply could restart after Friday as the last 500 metres of repairs were completed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Prime Ersin Tatar on Monday said water would start flowing in a few days but unconfirmed reports hinted the decision to supply water would have to be taken in Turkey first.
On Monday, Tatar said the villages in the Mesarya plain and the Güzelyurt area would be the first to receive the water when it began flowing again.
Water tanker suppliers have been having problem supplying water to customers due to the persisting drought from the delay in the pipeline repair works.
The pipeline was damaged in January.
