TRNC to take steps to ensure students come to the island including providing of chartered flights
TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kudret Özersay has promised the government will work on bringing students to the island in a short time.
Özersay made the statement during his visit to Güzelyurt market at the weekend where he listened to the problems faced by tradesmen.
Özersay noted the inability of students to come to the country due to the pandemic which also caused serious problems in the region and across the country.
Stating that they have to ensure the arrival of students in a short time, Özersay said the government would consider some special facilities for students to come from abroad.
He stated that the Minister of Public Works and Transport, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health are working on the issue and they believe that they can make some decisions on this issue at the next Council of Ministers meeting.
The Supreme Council of the Ministry of Health earlier in the month announced that university students can come to the island as of September 20, however, this has not been easy due to limited flights to the island.
Speaking on the same issue, Minister of public Works and Transport, Tolga Atakan in a chat with Turkish Cypriot daily noted that students are having difficulties finding a place on the plane.
Atakan said that special charter flights and sea charter are been planned for students to overcome this.
There are also new applications such as wristband application and home quarantine for students.
Students will be hosted in quarantine centers. We are planning to start the first flights on October 5, he said.
