Messi likely to remain in Barcelona for another season

Messi's father and agent, Jorge Messi has said there is a possibility that his son, Lionel Messi, stays at Barcelona for the 2020/2021 season.

This could mean the 33-year-old leaves as a free agent in June next year.

Messi’s future has become a hot topic since he faxed the LaLiga giants expressing his desire to leave.

The Argentine has endured a turbulent season at Camp Nou, which ended in a humiliating 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the sacking of Quique Setien as manager as well as Eric Abidal as sporting director.

On Wednesday, Jorge held talks with Barca chiefs, in order to sort out the player’s future.

When a reporter from Spanish publication Deportes Cuatro asked Messi Snr if he was looking into the possibility of his son staying at the club this season and leaving free of cost next year, he simply replied: “Yes.”
