Manchester United interested in Edinson Cavani

Manchester United are in talks regarding a deal for Edinson Cavani, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Red Devils remain in the hunt for another proven striker and could snap up the Uruguayan as a free agent as he is yet to find a new club after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

Another option available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic, with tentative discussions also being held there.

Cavani was linked with Chelsea in January but a detail failed to materialise for the experienced frontman.

Atletico Madrid also want to sign the 33-year-old this summer despite already bringing in his international team-mate Luis Suarez from Barcelona.

But Spanish outlet AS say United are now keen on taking Cavani to the Premier League.

The report says United have begun discussions with Cavani's agent and brother as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to strengthen his attacking options.

However, Cavani's high wage demands may scupper chances of any deal.

Anthony Martial was United's main central striker last season following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

Martial enjoyed the best goalscoring campaign in his career, finding the net on 23 occasions.

Odion Ighalo was brought in on loan late in the January window but is not seen as a long-term solution and is set to return to his parent club Shanghai Shenhua in January 2021.
