Man who killed an African student in an accident in Kyrenia get only one year prison sentence
A 23-year-old man who hit an African student with a car that killed him has been sentenced to 1 year in prison, a decision I deemed too lenient for the defendant.
The accident that happened on June, 11, 2020 claimed the life of an African student, Ngoy David Kakudji who was hit by a car while walking on a pedestrian in Kyrenia.
The driver of the vehicle identified as 23-year-old Mustafa Volkan Hasanbulli was arrested at the scene of the accident and taken to a court in Kyrenia.
Delivering judgement on Tuesday, the Girne High Criminal Court, evaluated the case in favor of the defendant, on the grounds that he is young, had no criminal record, did not run away from the accident scene after the accident and instead waited for the ambulance and surrendered to the police.
Mustafa Volkan Hasanbulli was driving towards Kyrenia on Karaoğlanoğlu Street at about 11:30pm on June 11, 2020 when he hit the late Ngoy David Kakudji, who was walking on foot from the north of the road to the south, as a result of carelessness and imprudence.
The defendant was sent to prison after the accident for investigation to be carried out.
The court Heavy Penal Committee stated that when they looked at the facts of the decision, the defendant parked his vehicle beyond the accident scene and waited for the ambulance to arrive, he waited for the casualty to be put in the ambulance, and he went to the police after the injured was taken to the hospital.
Stating that they evaluated all the facts of the accident, the High Criminal Committee announced that they found the defendant guilty of the cases he was tried and sentenced him to 1 year in prison.
***Really don't get it.... One year for reckless driving that killed a foreigner? This is too lenient and unacceptable!
Im done with this country. DONE!!! if it was the other way around, David would have gotten a life sentence for that but since its them, its 1 year. Wooooooooooow.... I'm DONE!!!
