Turkish Cypriot man who almost strangled son to death battered wife for intervening
A Turkish Cypriot man arrested for battering his wife who intervened while he was strangling his son in Gönyeli, has been released on bail.
The man identified only as A.S committed the crime at their home in Gönyeli on Sunday, August, 16.
According to police report, the suspect reportedly battered his wife after she intervened while he was strangling his son.
He was arrested on the same following a complaint and taken to a court in Lefkosa on a charge of 'serious assault'
Police said that the woman and her son were checked by a doctor at the LDH emergency room the same day and a doctor report was obtained.
Police stated that the suspect was detained on the basis of a pending order obtained from the Lefkosa District Court.
The police stated that the suspect is a Turkish and TRNC citizen and demanded that he be given an appropriate guarantee until his cases are discussed.

Police witness in court said the man had squeezed his 16-year-old son's throat after a verbal discussion between them on the grounds that he went out without his knowledge. He then pushed his wife who intervened, causing her head to hit the door and hitting her on the face severally.
Police stated that the suspect was detained on the basis of a pending order obtained from the Lefkosa District Court.
The police stated that the suspect is a Turkish and TRNC citizen and demanded that he be given an appropriate guarantee until his cases are discussed.
