World’s oldest man reveals secret to long life

A Romanian grandfather has become the world’s oldest man at 111 years young – revealing his hack for living a long and happy life.

A Romanian grandfather has been honoured for becoming the oldest man in the world.The title was formerly held by British Bob Weighton, who died on May 28 at the age of 112, Digi24 reported.

I feel honoured and blessed to be, officially, the oldest man in the world and to represent Romania at the highest level! It’s incredible!, Mr Comanescu, who lives at the Bucharest Center for Seniors, said.

Born on November 8, 1908, in Proviţa de Jos, Drăgăneasa commune, in the county of Prahova, Mr Comanescu happily shared the secret to his long life: the love of his wife, sons, and grandchildren.

I hope you will outgrow me, he told fans.

Mr Comanescu graduated from university in 1933 and worked as an agricultural engineer and in plant pathology for an astonishing 70 years, according to Romanian Insider.

The great-grandfather has lived through an impressive number of key historical events, including both world wars, numerous Romanian military dictatorships, and also survived the Soviet Union's occupation of Romania during 1944 and 1958.

In February this year, he was declared “the oldest Romanian citizen of the city of Bucharest”.

The Bucharest City Hall awarded him $A1742 and an honorary plaque as a “homage to his life and the contribution to the development of society and the community of the city of Bucharest and as a show of respect and appreciation for Bucharest seniors”.

The title was formerly held by Robert Weighton, who died at the age of 112, his family confirmed in a statement yesterday.

Mr Weighton, a former engineer and teacher from Hampshire in southern England, had cancer and died peacefully in his sleep at his own home, where he lived independently up until his death, his family told UK’s PA Media news agency.

We are so grateful that until the very end Bob remained our witty, kind, knowledgeable, conversationalist father, grandfather and great grandfather, and we will miss him greatly, the family added.

The oldest known living person is Kane Tanaka of Japan, aged 117.
