George Floyd fund receives highest number of individual donations in GoFundMe history
The GoFundMe page for George Floyd — a 46-year-old unarmed black man who died last week in Minneapolis after his neck was pinned to the ground by white police officer Derek Chauvin’s knee — has set a record.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the crowdfunding platform told TMZ that the Official George Floyd Memorial Fund — set up and run by Adner Marcelin of Ben Crump Law — has received the highest number of individual donations for a GoFundMe page.
As of Friday afternoon, nearly 500,000 donors had given to the memorial, which was established to help Floyd’s family with costs such as funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and other forms of assistance. It has raised over $13 million.
A portion of the funds will also go to Floyd’s estate to care for his children and to provide for their education.
