South Cyprus to send 150 Cameroonians back home
The Greek Cypriot government is currently making plans to send 150 Cameroonians who are “illegal political asylum-seekers” back home.
The government which started this process with Georgia, has a return agreement with Georgia to send 197 Georgians whose applications were rejected back home with two charter flights and the process will continue with Cameroonian and Syrian refugees in the country .
Speaking on a return agreement between Georgia and Southern Cyprus, Greek Cypriot Interior Minister Nikos Nuris pointed out that 107 of the 197 Georgians whose political asylum applications were rejected, were sent back on Tuesday.
He noted that Georgians had the highest asylum application in the south, followed by Syrians.
Nuris said they currently plan to send about 150 people from Cameroon to their country, but that there is no return agreement between the south of Cyprus and Cameroon, and that the county will cover the flight costs of 88 thousand Euros.
