All Girne residents must wear mask starting from Friday, April, 24

All residents of Girne have been told to wear a mask when going out starting from Friday, April, 24.

The decision was made by the Girne Municipality on Wednesday in other to prevent the risk of coronavirus transmission in the region.

According to a statement made by the Municipality of Kyrenia concerning the new order, obligation to wear a mask is applicable to all residents of Girne. 

It is obligatory to wear masks in public and closed areas within the city borders of Kyrenia, Mayor of Kyrenia, Nidai Güngördü said in a statement. 

All those visiting and working in crowded places, public service buildings, banks, markets, pharmacies, bakeries, taxis, gas stations are obliged to wear mask.

The enforcement will start at about 6:00am on Friday. 

The Mayor also stated that those violating the orders will be punished.

In order to reduce human mobility in the city of Kyrenia, there will be no crowd in all public places, including streets, the Mayor said in a statement.

He called on residents to pay attention to social distancing staying at least 3 steps (1 meter) away from the nearest person.  

Our aim is not to cause difficulty to our people; on the contrary, it is to protect their health and also to ensure the health of those who come into contact with them. As in our country, in our city; when we can normally return life; is in our hands. The more we pay attention to personal precautions and rules, the faster we control the epidemic process and we can eliminate the threat completely, he said.
