First case of coronavirus detected in TRNC

The first case of the deadly corona virus has been detected in Northern Cyprus after a 65-year-old female tourist who arrived from Germany on Sunday tested positive for the virus as hotels in Famagusta are placed in quarantine. 

The tourists had entered the country via the Ercan Airport.

This was confirmed by the TRNC health minister on Tuesday as the government announced a series of precautionary steps to deal with the crisis.

This is the first case of the virus in North Cyprus, which was detected in Mağusa.

The tourist was part of a group of 30 people from Germany's Balingen town who were staying at a hotel in Mağusa.

The entire hotel along with the visitors have now been placed under quarantine.

The corona virus victim was taken to the Dr. Bruhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosa on Monday after she complained of high fever, the minister said, adding her test result then came out positive.

The minister said the overall health of the female tourist remains good as her treatment in the hospital continues.
