Odion Ighalo becomes the first Nigerian to play for Manchester United and will reportedly earn £130,000 a week
The January transfer window has come and gone and one signing on everyone's lips is the last minute signing of Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo by Manchester United.
The player who plays for Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua joined United on a six-month loan deal and will replace the injured Marcus Rasford.
Unites manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made it clear he was keen to bring in a striker to provide cover in the absence of injured front man Marcus Rashford, who suffered a double stress fracture in his back.
United’s hopes were looking slim, but just before the deadline passed they sealed a loan deal for Ighalo that will reportedly see them pay £4million to Shanghai Shenhua.
The deal doesn't include an option to sign, so Man Uited has no obligation to keep him beyond six months if he doesn't perform well.
With the signing, Ighalo becomes the first Nigerian to sign for Manchester United and will reportedly earn £130,000 (N62m) per week.
Though former Nigerian mid fielder, Mikel Obi had in 2006 missed the chance of becoming the first Nigerian to play for Master United when he later signed for Chelsea under then boss Jose Mourhino.
We wish Ighalo good-luck on his new job.
