Liverpool’s 44-match unbeaten run ends in thrashing at Watford

Watford on Saturday ended Liverpool’s amazing unbeaten run in the Premier League this season in unfathomable fashion hammering the European champions 3-0 at their ecstatic Vicarage Road stadium.

Relegation-threatened Watford were superb at home against the Reds and collected a massive but deserved victory courtesy of a brace from record signing Ismaila Sarr and club captain Troy Deeney in the second half.

Ismaila Sarr scored two goals in six second-half minutes before he set up captain Troy Deeney with a third for the team who had started the day one from bottom, 55 points behind the runaway leaders.

The shock result marks the first time Liverpool have lost in the league in 44 games - the last loss being the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 3 January 2019.
It means that they will not be following in the footsteps of Arsenal's 'Invincibles', who set an unprecedented feat in the 2003/04 campaign when they did not taste defeat en route to lifting the title under Arsene Wenger.

It also came on the evening when they were expected to surpass champions Manchester City by creating a new English top-flight record of 19 successive league victories.
