Former Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi, the country's longest serving leader, has died aged 95.
The death of Moi, who ruled Kenya from 1978 to 2002, was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a statement carried by the state broadcaster on Tuesday.
For most of his time as president, Moi had absolute authority over political and judicial systems and presided over years of repression and economic turmoil fuelled by runaway corruption.
But he is also credited with keeping the country stable when other neighbours were grappling with civil strife.
